A long way to go

July 19, 2009

I have made a little change in my routine since my last post.

I now do pushups on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and walk four miles. My best time this week was 63 minutes. I am currently shooting to get it under an hour by next Sunday.

On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, when I don’t do pushups I walk more. Yesterday, I walked six miles for the first time. It took me 97 minutes. That is a tad over 16 minutes per mile, while I was a tad under 16 min per mile on a four miles walk. Over the next couple of weeks my focus will be to cut my time, rather than increase my distance.

My diet program is effective and I have lost almost 10 pounds since I started the diet three weeks ago, and I bought a pair of 32″ waist shorts this week, as my brand new 34″ shorts were getting loose. yea!

I am going to be leaving Houston late Sunday, early Monday to go to Grand Canyon. It has been more than 25 years since I last visited Grand Canyon, but the memory is fresh and I remember the impact it had on me. I came back with an awesome attitude and fresher outlook on life. It was one of my most profound Spiritual Experience.

Within a year, I had relocated from Chicago to Austin with a better job than I had at that time and I am looking forward to having a similar impact again. I plan on traveling by road and I will be writing in more detail about it during the week and as I get closer to leaving at my Nomadic blog.

The diet and exercise routine will be challenged as I travel, but I will keep you posted. I will have my next weekly post here on Sunday before I leave. I intend to be back by Friday.

New Routine – Update Wk 1

July 6, 2009

As I move forward with my goal of climbing Mt Everest I have been exercising, and I started a special diet recommended by Tim ferris, in order to lose fat and build muscles and it is working.

After week one, I am here to report that though I have not lost any body weight, I have definitely lost inches around the waist. Normally I used to wear size 36 pants, and in May I had bought two pairs of size 38 pants because it was getting difficult to button the size 36. I haven’t got much mileage out of those size 38 pants, as shortly thereafter I got started with my workouts, walking everyday. I have been wearing the size 36 pants again for last month or so, but this morning I went to Wal-Mart and bought myself a pair of shorts to exercise in, and I was comfortably able to get into a size 34.

My push ups program is going on as scheduled and I started Week 2 today and the results were a little disappointing, but I am looking at what I needed to learn from the results and moving on. One of those lessons was, that you don’t tell yourself this is going to be “tougher than I thought”. Mental preparations are more important than the physical ones. Also I learned about the importance of following instructions to the tee, and hydrating myself adequately before starting my exercises.
